Incinerator 1.0 beta3

What is Incinerator?

Incinerator is a secure file deletion utility. Normally, when files are deleted from your disks the actual data of the files are left behind untouched. The data is only overwritten when that disk space is used to store new data for another file. It is surprisingly easy to recover data from areas of disks that have been written over with new data. For this reason it is a good idea to use a secure file deletion utility on any data you want to render unrecoverable.

How do you accomplish this?

Research has shown that certain data patterns are highly effective at masking the original data in a file. Incinerator makes several passes using these patterns and also throws in some passes of random data for good measure. For more detailed information you might want to check out this excellent paper on the topic of secure deletion of data:

REMEMBER:

This application is for securely deleting files. It does not place the files in the trash. Once you drag a file onto the icon it is GONE...
