Installing TraX

To install the TraX application, for BeOS/x86, just double click on the "Installer" icon.

This will prompt you to indicate where you wish to install TraX. A subdirectory called "TraX" will automatically be created a part of the install process, so the default option of "/boot/apps/" will be suitable for most people, but you can put it wherever you wish

You will be prompted whether you wish to install the source code. You don't need to. Only install this if you are a developer and want to make changes to TraX. The source is under the GPL.

You will be given the option of whether to add a link to the Deskbar (ie Be Menu) this will automatically add links to TraX and FastTraX under Applications folder on the Deskbar, if you choose to.

Similarly there is the option to add a link on the desktop.

At the end of the install process you will be asked whether to delete the install files.
I recommend that you do this. It will not delete the orginal zip file you downloaded, but only the data files that the installer needs. TraX does not use these files in any way, and if you need to re-install, you can simply uncompress the zip file that you downloaded.

A log of everything that happens will be created.

TraX does not store anything outside of its own directory, so you can delete the TraX folder to completely
remove it. (If you created links on the Deskbar/Desktop you will need to delete them too)

TraX was written for BeOS r4, and should be compatible with r4 or higher.

Since the source is included, someone can easily (I hope) make a PPC version. Please let me know if you do.

The installer uses are few little utilities that I wrote to make it easier for users.
If you want the source to these, mail me at zodsoft@kagi.com
