On the Solaris Operating System, Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) is an alternative to the all-or-nothing superuser model. RBAC provides a means for granting users just the privileges needed to perform their jobs through the use of administrative roles. You can create administrative roles and make them available to specific users, through the Solaris Management Console. When a user who is permitted to assume one or more roles logs in to the Java Web Console, that user then sees a second login screen. This screen enables the user to log in using one of the roles available to him or her.
To create administrative roles on the Solaris Operating System:
Start the Solaris Management Console (/usr/sadm/bin/smc).
Open Users from System Configuration.
From the Help menu, select Contents and then select Getting Started With Users Tools, which has introductory information about RBAC.
